Hi all,
Think I've probably put this in the wrong place really, but have been very interested reading the thread about hearing loss and its links to R.A.
I was fitted with nhs earing aids, digital, a few years ago.
I stil find them really echoey and noisy when in a noisy situation, not much better than the old monologue type.
Just wondering how everyone else finds them.
The left one is not helping at all now, and I find the tubes keeps blocking with condensation.
I have been thinking of going to specsavers to get ears tested again, and wondering if anyone has experince of their digital aids, ie. do they perform better?
They are quite expensive so want to know a bit about them first before buying. Don't know whether to just go back to gp and be retested.
Be glad of any imput. Thanks Zena x

Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I'd go back to the Audiology clinic Zena - you should be under regular review anyway. Give them a ring first - you might not need to go through your GP if you are already in the system with hearing aids.

It could be that the moulds for you ears no longer fit properly or the tubing is damaged or just that your hearing has changed so that your aids need to be adjusted (to be honest if they haven't been adjusted for a few yeras that seems quite likely)

Don't pay unless you have to - you can get great aids through the NHS if that is what you actually need - the only private advantage really is speed & cosmetic appearance & cost is a HUGE ongoing disadvantage - not just purchase but follow up as well. I know that plenty of really expensive aids are actually fitted by the NHS where they work best. (Our local Specsavers sees NHS patients once referred by the hospital to keep the waiting list down.)

Good luck! Sally xx
